President Donald Trump took an apparent shot at House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other Democrats on Sunday in a warning that he issued to Iran over reports that the country is preparing to retaliate against the United States after the U.S. killed Qassem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, which is a designated terrorist organization.
“These Media Posts will serve as notification to the United States Congress that should Iran strike any U.S. person or target, the United States will quickly & fully strike back, & perhaps in a disproportionate manner,” Trump tweeted. “Such legal notice is not required, but is given nevertheless!”
Trump’s remarks appear to be a direct shot at Pelosi’s response to Trump ordering the removal of the world’s top terrorist from the battlefield.
Pelosi said in a statement following the strike, “American leaders’ highest priority is to protect American lives and interests. But we cannot put the lives of American servicemembers, diplomats and others further at risk by engaging in provocative and disproportionate actions.”
Trump authorized the drone strike that took out Soleimani late last week after the U.S. intelligence community received highly credible information that Soleimani was planning on carrying out terrorist attacks against U.S. forces and interests in the region.
