Trump hints at making ‘a big trade agreement with Mexico’

President Trump indicated Saturday that a major trade agreement with Mexico could be on the horizon after weeks of negotiations between the two nations over tariffs and trade policy.

The president wrote in a tweet Saturday morning that a "big Trade Agreement with Mexico could be happening soon," adding that his administration's relationship with Mexico's new left-wing president is "getting closer by the hour."

"Our relationship with Mexico is getting closer by the hour. Some really good people within both the new and old government, and all working closely together ... A big Trade Agreement with Mexico could be happening soon!" he wrote.

Trump has threatened to withdraw from the North American Free Trade Agreement and the U.S. and Mexico have been negotiating the deal for weeks. Trump’s proposed foreign auto tariffs are reportedly a sticking point in talks.

The latest tweet comes after the two countries have traded several rounds of tariffs on both agricultural and manufacturing products totaling in the billions of dollars.
