Trump focuses on preserving a GOP-run Senate in rally-filled sprint to the election

President Donald Trump is planning a final-week campaign blitz of 11 rallies in eight states before the midterm election, part of a broader effort to preserve a Republican-run Senate – but not necessarily a Republican-led House.Trump's pre-election schedule – 11 rallies spread over Florida, Ohio, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, Montana, Tennessee and West Virginia – suggests an emphasis on Senate and gubernatorial races, not competitive U.S. House contests.

Most of Trump's schedule involves visits to states with incumbent Democratic senators considered beatable: Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Jon Tester in Montana and Joe Manchin in West Virginia. Trump has visited each of those states at least once in recent weeks.

Tennessee, meanwhile, features a tight race to replace retiring Republican Sen. Bob Corker. Trump is stumping for Rep. Marsha Blackburn against the Democrat, former Gov. Phil Bredesen.

Republican operatives said they viewed Trump’s rally schedule as a measure of where the president can make the biggest difference.
