AG nominee William Barr promises to look into FBI bias

Attorney General nominee William Barr promised Tuesday that, if confirmed, he will look into allegations that political bias influenced FBI investigations related to the 2016 election.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Republican and chairman of the Judiciary Committee, asked if Mr. Barr would “promise” to look into such claims, including anti-Trump texts between two former top FBI officials, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.

Mr. Barr responded, “Yes.”

Mr. Graham read a text exchange between Mr. Strzok and Ms. Page that lambasted President Trump, calling him “an idiot” and “loathsome.” Both were briefly members of special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into whether Russia colluded with members of the Trump campaign to meddle in the 2016 election. Mr. Strzok also oversaw the investigation in Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

“I was shocked when I saw them,” Mr. Barr said of the text exchanges.
