Donald Trump was leading most polls just two short weeks ago, but a feud with the Khan family, the Democratic National Convention, and several gaffes have eroded his lead. Still, the billionaire is doing better with Latino voters than most would expect.
According to the YouGov/Economist weekly tracking poll, Trump is down by 6 points in a four-way matchup between Hillary Clinton, Jill Stein, and Gary Johnson.
Clinton leads with 42 percent, Trump follows with 36 percent, Johnson is nearly at double digits with 9 percent, and Stein has just 2 percent.
Trump’s slump doesn’t have much to do with minority voters. While he’s struggling with blacks, he has an impressive 35 percent with Hispanics — a higher percentage than either Mitt Romney or John McCain got with Latinos.
The Republican nominee’s real problem is, oddly enough, with whites and Republicans. While he does well with Latinos and is winning a plurality of independents, he is lacking white voters, especially college-educated whites, and GOP voters.
