FBI Director James Comey wrote in a letter to members of Congress on Sunday that the FBI has not changed its position on Hillary Clinton's fate since its announcement in July that her "extreme carelessness" with classified information did not warrant criminal charges.
"Since my letter, the FBI investigative team has been working around the clock to process and review a large volume of emails from a device obtained in connection with an unrelated criminal investigation," Comey wrote, referring to his Oct. 28 letter, in which he announced additional "investigative steps" based off those newly-discovered emails.
"Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton," Comey wrote.
His announcement late last month that the FBI would effectively reopen the email investigation scrambled the presidential race and prompted Democrats to accuse Comey of interfering in the election.
However, Comey's letter Sunday appeared to acknowledge that Clinton will not face legal consequences for her reliance on a private server to conduct her State Department affairs.
