House Speaker Paul Ryan says he thinks Donald Trump can win the White House, but said he's not ready to bet money on it.
"I'm not gonna – I'm not a betting man," Ryan said in an interviewpublished Monday after being asked by Politico.
"I think if we get our party unified, and if we do the work we need to do to get ourselves at full strength, and if we offer the country a clear and compelling agenda that is inspiring, that is inclusive, that fixes problems, that is solutions-based and based on good principles, then, yes, I think we can win," the Wisconsin Republican said.
Ryan and Trump met earlier this month after Ryan said he wasn't ready to endorse the GOP's presumed nominee, and he has yet to endorse Trump.
"I've done that in the past," Ryan said of criticizing Trump. "And I will do that in future if need be, and I hope it's not necessary."
