McConnell refuses to say Trump is qualified to be president

Asked several times Sunday whether Donald Trump is qualified to be president of the United States, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell declined to respond affirmatively.

"I'll leave that to the American people to decide," the Kentucky Republican said of his party's presidential candidate's qualifications.

McConnell was interviewed on ABC's "This Week" directly after the show revealed the results of a poll that showed that fully 64 percent of respondents thought that Trump was not qualified to be president.

In response, McConnell simply commented that Republican primary voters have made their choice, and that "the American people will be able to make that decision in the fall."

And in response to columnist George Will's decision to leave the Republican Party because of Trump's influence, McConnell argued that the party's platform and character have not changed.
