On September 7, 2014, President Obama referred to ISIS as a “JV team” and put down any fear that they might expand as nothing more than right-wing hysteria. Well, it turns out Americans had a right to worry.
Wasil Farooqui attempted to carry out the first ISIS-inspired beheading in America in Roanoke, Virginia on Saturday.
ABC News reported that Farooqui stabbed a man and woman at an apartment complex while screaming “Allahu Akbar.” The FBI has opened a terrorism investigation and said that they believe the attacker was trying to behead the male victim.
“The FBI is working with the police department following the incident that occurred on Saturday evening,” Adam Lee, the head of the FBI’s Richmond field office said in a statement. “While I cannot discuss details of the investigation at this time, I do want to reassure the community that we are working to determine the nature of the incident.”
According to WSLS, the victims were likely picked at random. The male victim was able to fight off the attack, but both he and the female were severely injured.
