Giuliani fires up RNC crowd with boisterous speech

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani got some of the loudest cheers at the opening night of the Republican convention with an emphatic speech touching on violence against police, terrorism and Benghazi.

"We say thank you to the Cleveland Police Department for protecting us," Giuliani said, prompting the first of several standing ovations during his speech. The ovations included audience chants of "Ru-dy! Ru-dy!"

"We know the risk you're taking. And we say thank you to every police office and law enforcement agent who's out tonight protecting us. Black, white, Latino of every race, every color, every creed, every sexual orientation. When they come to save your life they don't ask if you are Black or white. They just come to save you."

Giuliani added that Trump has helped New York City every time the city suffered a tragedy, which Trump did anonymously. Giuliani joked that people would find it surprising Trump helped anonymously.

In a wide-ranging speech, Giuliani brought up "Islamic extremist terrorism," and said it was important to use that term to describe terrorism. "You know who you are, and we're coming for you," Giuliani said. "Failing to identify them properly maligns all those good Muslims around the world who are being killed by them," Giuliani said.
