Democrats Vote To Block Trump Impeachment Resolution

On Wednesday, July 17 the House of Representatives voted to kill an impeachment resolution against President Trump.

Rep. Al Green (D-TX) proposed a resolution to impeach Trump over tweets directed at four freshman members of Congress: Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Presley, who call themselves “The Squad.” “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how,” Trump wrote. Many on the left and in the media immediately claimed the tweet was racist.

The final vote was 332-95-1 in favor of dissolving the resolution. To kill the resolution, 137 Democrats joined 194 Republicans and Independent Rep. Justin Amash, a former Republican.

When the special counsel report was initially released, Democrats talked about beginning the process of impeachment as they didn’t believe it cleared Trump from charges of colluding with Russia even though the report itself said it did so.

However, after inflammatory comments about “The Squad,” Green introduced a resolution to impeach Trump over “racism.” Trump tweeted that the impeachment resolution today was “perhaps the most ridiculous and time consuming project [he has] ever had to work on.”
