Clinton's lead over Trump grows in new national poll

Hillary Clinton saw her lead over Donald Trump grow bigger in the week she clinched the Democratic nomination, according to a new national poll released Tuesday.

According to an NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll, Clinton leads the presumptive Republican nominee by 7 points: 49 percent to 42 percent.

The former secretary of state, who led Trump by just 4 points a week ago, gained 3 percentage points in the new poll. This gain can be attributed to an increase in support among moderates, men and white voters.

Last week, Trump led among male voters by 14 points but now only does so by 9 points: 51 percent to 42 percent. Among white voters, Trump saw his lead drop from 13 points to just 9 points (50 percent to 41 percent).

Among voters describing themselves as moderate, Clinton now leads Trump by 25 points — 58 percent to 33 percent — after gaining 7 points in the demographic.
