America’s most popular politicians? GOP governors in blue states

During this time of upheaval in politics when trust for the establishment is at an all-time low, two Republican governors in blue states are enjoying record high approval ratings.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker (R) and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) have favorable ratings with a supermajority of their state’s voters according to polls by Suffolk University/Boston Globe and Washington Post/University of Maryland.

According to the Washington Post, Hogan is Maryland’s most popular governor in two decades, winning support from 89 percent of Republicans, 66 percent of independents, and even 56 percent of Democrats.

Hogan was battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year and remains in remission, but during that time he was able to work with the Democratic-controlled state legislature — even the Legislative Black Caucus — to direct funds to construction projects at historically black universities and away from building new prisons.

The Maryland governor has been especially focused on the economy, education, and criminal justice reform.
