UC system demands students report ‘expressions of bias’ in ‘intolerance report’

The University of California is starting off the year by finding itself once again in the news. Last year, the university system instructed its professors not to say phrases like “America is the land of opportunity.” Such a ridiculous move even had liberal media outlets, such as the Daily Beast, decrying “The University of California’s Insane Speech Police.”  The university system also considered the ill-fated plan — an obvious infringement of free speech — to provide students a “right” not to be offended by “intolerance.”

Well, it turns out UC can’t seem to shake off that concern over “intolerance.” As the College Fix reported, students are encouraged to report the following using the “intolerance report form:”
  • Expressions of Bias
  • Hate Speech
  • Hate Crime
  • Graffiti/Vandalism
  • Intimidation, Bullying or Physical Violence
  • Bias Incidents
  • Hostile Climate
  • Other Campus Climate Issues

Those making the report can mouse over the options on the website for the university’s definition of what constitutes each.

Despite its track record, the page still claims they “are equally committed to freedom of expression, critical inquiry, civil dialogue and mutual respect.”
