President Trump announced Tuesday night his intent to renominate Jessica Rosenworcel, a Democrat, to serve as a member of the Federal Communication Commission.
"If confirmed Jessica Rosenworcel of Connecticut will serve as a member of the Federal Communications Commission," the White House said in a press release.
Rosenworcel served as a member of the FCC from 2012 until 2017. Former President Barack Obama twice re-nominated her to a second five-year term, but that nomination was never taken up by the Republican-controlled Senate. Trump withdrew the second nomination about a month into his presidency.
Currently only three of five seats in the FCC are filled, two by Republicans, including Chairman Ajit Pai, and one by a Democrat. An FCC rule ensures no more than three members of one party sit on the panel at once.
