Trump campaign floats JPMorgan head Jamie Dimon for Treasury secretary

President-elect Donald Trump's campaign on Thursday floated the possibility of nominating JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon to the position of Treasury secretary, a selection that would run counter to the Republican's campaign statements criticizing Wall Street and international finance.

CNBC cited two unnamed sources claiming that members of Trump's team have suggested Dimon for the top post.

It had been reported that Trump was considering his campaign's finance chairman, hedge fund manager and former Goldman Sachs banker Steven Mnuchin, for the Treasury role.

Dimon, who has said that he is not interested in the job, would be an awkward choice in that Trump campaigned on criticism of Wall Street and "global special interests," and Dimon is the head of the largest bank in the U.S., one that has a global footprint. Trump has also criticized Dimon personally.

Furthermore, Trump's campaign proposed reinstating the Depression-era Glass-Steagall separation of commercial and investment banking, a law that would effectively break up Dimon's bank, and one that Dimon has opposed.
