The DNC mistake that could cause a Trump bump in the polls

Throughout the Democratic National Convention, Democratic leaders emphasized a clear contrast between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump that may actually end up benefitting the Republican nominee.

The convention framed a Hillary Clinton presidency as a way to continue Obama’s progressive agenda. Moreover, keynote speakers, including Obama and Clinton, blasted Trump’s slogan “Make America Great Again,” by borrowing Republican rhetoric and rejecting Trump’s claim that America is falling behind. However, upon further inspection, these distinctions may end up hurting Hillary Clinton’s image with the American electorate.

Despite current media narratives, Americans want a drastic transformation in the direction of the country. A recent ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 71 percent of registered voters believe that the United States is on the wrong track.

Furthermore, a Hillary Clinton presidency serves to solidify the “progress” of the Obama administration. Donald Trump’s candidacy represents a distinct change to the status quo, and Americans have repeatedly shown that they want tougher border security, a different foreign policy approach, and a change in health care law.

The speakers at the DNC are correct, Trump’s vision of the future is in stark contrast to Hillary Clinton; however, Clinton’s progressive agenda represents a continuation on the wrong track.
