Gov. Gary Johnson’s surge among millennials in the national polls is being reflected in America’s swing states. Last week, Pew released a poll showing Johnson in second place among voters under age 30.
Now, new polls from Quinnipiac show with voters under age 35, Johnson is statistically tied with Donald Trump among millennials in Pennsylvania and Florida. In Ohio, he trails Trump by just 7 percent.
In Pennsylvania, Johnson wins 19 percent of young voters; Trump wins 19 percent. In Florida, Johnson wins 13 percent; Trump wins 14 percent. In Ohio, Johnson wins 14 percent; Trump wins 21 percent.
And — continuing the terrible trend for Hillary Clinton — she scores less than 40 percent in each poll with millennials; these are states where Obama won this demographic by more than 60 percent in both elections. In all three polls, Trump is beating Clinton, driven largely by her underperformance with millennials.
This underperformance isn’t just coming from losing votes to Johnson. Green Party nominee Jill Stein is also winning double-digit support in Ohio and Florida among millennials. She’s winning 12 percent in Florida, 11 percent in Ohio, and 7 percent in Pennsylvania.
