Record keeper pleads ignorance in Clinton private server case

A senior State Department official in charge of record-keeping during Hillary Clinton's time in office said he did not know whether Clinton was authorized to use a personal email account.

Patrick Kennedy, the agency's undersecretary for management, said he did not realize the significance of Clinton's private email use during her tenure. He admitted to exchanging more than two dozen emails with Clinton on her personal account.

Kennedy was deposed by attorneys for conservative watchdog Judicial Watch Wednesday in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit over personnel files from Clinton's time in office.

He responded to roughly 50 questions by saying he did not remember aspects of his work for Clinton, including when asked if he recalled sending emails that Judicial Watch attorneys had printed out and presented to him.

Clinton's private email address "did not strike any bells in [his] mind" at the time it was in use, he said.
