Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus predicted Tuesday that Donald Trump will either be tied or will have overtaken Hillary Clinton in the polls soon after Labor Day.
Priebus, who was on a conference call with reporters, touted the past week for Trump, in which the candidate reshuffled his campaign leadership and read his speeches from a teleprompter. However, Priebus argued that Trump needs to stay on this "measured path" he's on to win.
"I think what you are seeing on the campaign is a basically continuation of a good couple of weeks that Donald Trump has had," he told reporters. "If he continues down this path — and he's been making prepared, mature comments on the campaign trail that I think people are looking to and saying, 'I can see him in the White House.'
"It's going to be important for us and for Donald Trump to continue down this measured path that he's on, and if he does that, I think he's going to be tied or ahead at or just after Labor Day."
The RNC chairman also touched on Trump softening his tone regarding immigration in the wake of a meeting with his Hispanic advisory group over the weekend. Since then, the GOP nominee postponed a planned speech on the topic, which was set for later this week.
