One-in-three young voters support Gary Johnson

Gary Johnson is no longer a third-party candidate, not to millennials anyway. A new poll by Investors Business Daily showed the Libertarian Party nominee nearly tied with Hillary Clinton among young voters.

The IBD/TIPP poll released on Friday showed Johnson with 12 percent of the national vote, just three points shy of making a national debate. Donald Trump and Clinton were tied for first place with 39 percent, and Jill Stein lagged behind with just 3 percent.

Among voters ages 18-to-24 however, Johnson had a commanding 33 percent of the vote — just four percent shy of Clinton. He has nearly twice the support of Trump among this demographic.

Stein also performed very well with young millennials, garnering 13 percent of the vote.

Adding to his stunning level of support among young voters, Johnson also captured a significant portion of independent voters, barely trailing Clinton. While Trump was in the lead among voters without a party affiliation, Clinton had just a slim advantage over Johnson. Trump is winning 36 percent of the independent vote, Clinton is winning 27 percent, and Johnson is winning 22 percent.
