Gun-free zones on college campuses are nearing extinction in Ohio after Governor John Kasich signed legislation to do away with gun restrictive spaces.
On Monday, Kasich signed Senate Bill 199 into law allowing concealed carry firearms on college campuses and at daycares, if it’s approved by college trustees and business owners.
In addition to the bill lifting the blanket prohibition on firearms on college campuses and at daycares, gun owners will be allowed to carry a concealed firearm in the public area of airport terminals before security checkpoints.
Senate Bill 199 will go into effect in 90 days, but is passed less than a month after an Ohio State University student used his vehicle and a knife to injure nearly a dozen people at the end of November. The suspect, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, was shot and killed by Ohio State police officer Alan Horujko only minutes after he commenced his attack.
Had Horujko not been there, Artan could’ve harmed more people and possibly killed some, since Ohio State University is a gun free zone.
