Millennial advice to GOP: “Political agenda affects a human heart.”

Chelsea Patterson is a conservative millennial, but she can also understand why the conservative movement hasn’t been able to successfully reach out to her age group. In her piece for Patheos, “Engaging Millennials: A Millennial Details What Conservatives are Missing.” Patterson doesn’t spend the bulk of her piece bemoaning the point; in fact it’s just mentioned in the first paragraph.

And Patterson has an explanation for it too. She is “convinced that a good portion of millennials are disinterested in conservatism in part due to issues of perspective, attitude, and messaging.” As she also notes, “perspective affects attitude, and both affect messaging.”

From there, Patterson spends her time offering heartfelt advice. “Every public policy and political agenda affects a human heart.” Politicians should also be able to “Be willing to engage honestly,” “Speak the truth gracefully,” and “Live what you believe.”

Those points, particularly the first, show a human aspect of politics, which all parties could benefit from. Likewise, the other points could also be applied to every day life which politicians from all parties, and people of all professions, can and ought to apply.
