A top Donald Trump aide defended the notion that his candidate will not lock up the Republican presidential nomination.
"We're going to win on the first ballot," Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said on CNN's "New Day" Tuesday morning. "It's not a question. If we're close, Donald Trump is the greatest negotiator, the greatest deal-maker our country has ever seen. He will get the votes necessary."
Ted Cruz and John Kasich are still campaigning to prevent him from meeting or exceeding the 1,237 delegates necessary to win the nomination and the GOP's convention in July, thus leading to a contested convention.
Lewandowski pushed for the party to unify behind Trump in Indiana's crucial primary, adding that Cruz knows he cannot win the state or the race.
"Ted Cruz has literally received zero delegates between the New York primary and the five Northeast states," he said. "What we need right now for the good of the party is to come together."
