How pro-life millennials should react to Kasich’s signing/veto in Ohio

Last week, Ohio passed legislation that would ban abortions after a child’s heartbeat could be detected, which is around six weeks after conception. In addition, Ohio legislators passed a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of life. Today, Ohio Governor, John Kasich signed one of the pieces of pro-life legislation into law, while vetoing the stricter ‘Heartbeat Bill’.

While the stricter legislation ultimately failed, it is not a total loss for the pro-life movement.

For millennials, this new law should provide hope. According to a poll taken earlier this year, millennials are becoming a generation increasingly against abortion. Not only should the passing of the 20-week abortion ban should provide hope, but this is now the 18th pro-life bill that Gov. Kasich has signed into law. Children will be saved from abortions after 20 weeks.

When a child can survive outside of the womb, they will have that opportunity to do so.

The vetoing of the ‘Heartbeat Bill’ still comes with disappointment. Young children in the womb will still be at risk of abortion for the first 19 weeks of their lives. But, as our generation is a passionate group of people, I have no doubt that the fight to end abortion will go on. Simply the passing of the legislation at the state Capitol is a significant move in the right direction.
