How Evan McMullin could win 6 electoral votes — and the presidency

Could a man with little name recognition be elected the next president of the United States? While it may not be plausible, it is certainly possible — and the only thing stopping it from being plausible is Donald Trump’s plummeting campaign.

Yes, a man named Evan McMullin could be your next president.

As you may have heard by now, if no candidate reaches 270 electoral votes, the election is decided by the House of Representatives from any of the top three vote-getters in the Electoral College.

Here’s what it says in the Constitution’s 12th Amendment: “If no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President.”

Today, an Emerson poll showed Evan McMullin in first place in Utah, beating Donald Trump by 4 percent.
