A spokesman for Hillary Clinton's campaign said the front-running Democratic candidate would consider an all-female ticket if she wins the nomination in July.
"We'll start with a broad list and then begin to narrow it. But there is no question that there will be women on that list," campaign chairman John Podesta told the Boston Globe in an interview published Wednesday.
Podesta, the former top aide to Presidents Clinton and Obama, admitted Clinton's list of vice presidential picks would be short, but would include a woman.
A Clinton victory in November would make her the first female president of the United States, and winning with a female running mate would make it an even more historic accomplishment.
The former secretary of state took another step forward after her home state victory in New York on Tuesday. Clinton's campaign wouldn't share details about which women or men it is considering as her running mate and has said it is still focused on securing the nomination.
