GOP's agenda hits brakes after healthcare bill collapses

The sudden collapse of legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare has left Republican leaders scrambling to fill what was to have been a fast-paced legislative agenda in Congress.

The Republican majorities in both the House and Senate had hoped to move on to tax reform, the second major agenda item they promised to tackle at the beginning of the year.

While behind-the-scenes negotiations on tax reform have been going on for weeks, the failure to pass a healthcare bill has caused GOP leaders to quietly hit the "pause" button while they deals with the effects of that outcome first.

Repealing Obamacare would have provided not only a big win for the GOP and Trump but also critical tax cut savings that would have greatly eased the monumental task of reforming the tax code.
