Gary Johnson breaks 15% in Red Alert’s ‘Millennial Poll Average’

For the first time since Red Alert Politics began averaging the polling of millennials’ presidential preferences for 2016, Libertarian nominee Gov. Gary Johnson’s average has broken 15 percent.

Red Alert‘s Millennial Poll Average includes data from the last eight major polls that have millennial crosstabs (either under 35 years-old or under 30 years-old), showing preference for all four candidates who have qualified in more than 40 states.

Polls have Johnson winning between 11 percent and 19 percent of young voters, and YouGov’s latest poll has him in second place among this major demographic. In the average, he is just 8 percent shy of Trump. In today’s Reuters data, he is only 17 percent behind Hillary Clinton.

Could this be a sign of things to come? Johnson is running out of time to reach 15 percent in the overall polls and qualify for the presidential debate stage.

But, his overall numbers are also improving. In the RealClearPolitics average, he has climbed 1.5 percent in just the first few days of September. Now at 9 percent, he has scored as high as 12 percent in recent September polls.
