It’s not enough for neocons and warhawks to cozy up to President-elect Donald Trump. They have to kiss the ring to get into his administration and possibly be appointed to cabinet positions like Secretary of State.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) sees through their ruse. And she hopes Trump can too.
On Monday, Gabbard met with the President-elect to discuss a possible position in his cabinet, and, according to a senior member on Trump’s transition team, she’s “under serious consideration” for a post.
“President-elect Trump asked me to meet with him about our current policies regarding Syria, our fight against terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS, as well as other foreign policy challenges we face,” Gabbard said in a statement after the meeting.
Despite the talk on foreign policy, however, Gabbard had a specific reason for sitting down with Trump face-to-face, saying, “I felt it important to take the opportunity to meet with the President-elect now before the drumbeats of war that neocons have been beating drag us into an escalation of the war to overthrow the Syrian government — a war which has already cost hundreds of thousands of lives and forced millions of refugees to flee their homes in search of safety for themselves and their families.”
