Disney donates $2.5 million to recovery organizations aiding those affected by Hurricane Irma

The Walt Disney company will donate $2.5 million to aid Hurricane Irma relief efforts throughout Florida, the Caribbean and other areas affected by the storm.

The $2.5 million donation will go to benefit the American Red Cross, UNICEF, Save the Children and other relief organizations, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

"As millions of people now face the daunting challenge of putting their lives and communities back together in the wake of these historic hurricanes, they need our help," Robert A. Iger, chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company said in a statement.

"We're donating $2.5 million to support relief and recovery efforts in response to Hurricane Irma. This is in addition to nearly $16 million we raised after Hurricane Harvey to help ensure storm victims have the support needed to recover and rebuild," he added.

The company also has a program in place called "Disney Employee Matching Gifts," where it matches dollar for dollar employees' donations to help aid recovery organizations.
