Congressional Democrats are worried that President-elect Donald Trump's long-awaited press conference on Wednesday, when he will reveal how he plans to divest from his business, will overshadow the four confirmation hearings that are set to take place that day.
Democrats have already complained that Republicans are stacking hearings up too quickly for Trump. But his planned press conference will make it even harder for Democrats to break through the media and ask pointed questions of Trump's nominees in a way that gets attention.
"It's a very strong concern because the hearings are the opportunity to allow the American people to learn about the nominees," said Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis.
"Most of them have not yet completed furnishing their financial disclosures," she added. "The Office of Government Ethics (OGE) has not yet examined the prospect of conflicts of interest, documents that are usually before the committee before they have the hearings."
Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., agreed that Trump's press conference could pose issues.
