Democratic congressman Jim Himes: GOP would be impeaching Clinton if she behaved like Trump

A Democratic congressman said Friday if Hillary Clinton were elected president and a report came out about her chief of staff contacting the FBI about an open case, Republicans would be impeaching her the next day.

Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., said on CNN that the report about President Trump's chief of staff Reince Priebus contacting FBI Director James Comey over an investigation into Trump associates' connections to Russian intelligence would have sparked a firestorm of outrage among Republicans if it had been Clinton.

"There is no doubt in my mind that if this story broke in an alternative universe with a President Clinton, articles of impeachment would be being drawn up as we speak," he said.

Himes said Americans should be concerned about the White House attempting to influence the FBI's investigation into the campaign's connections with Russia.

Priebus reportedly asked Comey to deny reports on the investigation after being told they were overstated, but Comey refused because it's an open case. Himes is concerned that amount of contact amounts to the White House telling the FBI what conclusions they should draw in their investigation.
