“Could’ve won again”: No, President Obama, Trump would have beaten you

In an exit interview with former senior advisor David Axelrod, President Obama claimed he could have won the election if he had entered the race against Donald Trump.

He said he was confident in his vision of progression and change and said he could’ve “mobilized a majority of the American people to rally behind it.” He argued that he had achieved his 2008 vision of hope and change, having successfully shifted American culture to be more open and accepting during his time in office.

President Obama claimed that the Clinton campaign had not made enough of an effort to reach out to those who hadn’t felt the benefits of economic recovery, and also pointed to the fact that Hillary’s team had gotten too comfortable in the lead. He said that the Democrats had failed to emotionally connect with voters and relied mostly on policy points that didn’t make enough of an impact.

It appears he was right — black and Latino voter turnout for Hillary wasn’t even comparable to Obama’s numbers in 2008 and 2012. Hillary’s championing for minority communities wasn’t perceived as sincere in comparison to Obama’s same efforts.

However, President Obama’s belief that he would have won contradicts the reality of what led us to a Trump Presidency.
