Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump began June with $1.3 million cash on hand, putting him more than $40 million behind his likely rival in the November election, Hillary Clinton.
The self-funded billionaire businessman raised just over $3 million in May, including a $2.2 million loan to himself, according to Federal Election Commission filings published late Monday.
Meanwhile, the former secretary of state pulled in $28 million last month, one of her best months of fundraising to date.
But Trump's financial outlook gets worse. Clinton finished May with $1.2 million in debt while Trump concluded 37 times that number — a $44 million deficit.
Where Trump lacks in donations, he hopes to make up for in free media. A March report found Trump had received $2 billion worth of free media coverage compared to Clinton's $746 million of free press.
