Americans blame economic woes on Bush

Adults overwhelmingly believe former President George W. Bush is more to blame for current U.S. economic troubles than President Obama.

The Gallup survey was released Thursday evening and comes as Obama enters his final six months in office, nearly eight years since Bush left office.

Almost two-thirds of respondents said Bush deserved a "great deal" of blame for the weak economy. Obama was blamed by 50 percent of adults.

Those numbers have come closer together over the past seven years. But the new poll indicates Obama may leave office with a lower "at fault" rating than his predecessor.

Bush's fault levels have dropped since 2009, when four in five of adults pointed the finger at the departing president for the 2008 financial crisis. In Obama's first year, fewer than than one-in-three people said he was to blame for the country's economic woes.
