Donald Trump on Monday said the U.S. should step up its military campaign against the Islamic State following the mass shooting in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday that left 50 people dead and has since been praised by radical Islamic extremists affiliated with the terrorist organization.
"ISIS radio put out a statement that this particular shooter … he was soldier of the caliphate in America. Given the fact that they have struck us here, should there be a military response overseas?" Fox News' Brian Kilmeade asked Trump during an interview Monday morning.
"Yes there should. We have to really increase the bombings," Trump responded.
"I would strike – well, you know, they know … We have generals who think we can win this thing so fast and so strong but we have to be furious for a short period of time and we're not doing it," the presumptive Republican nominee added when asked where, specifically, the U.S. should increase its airstrikes.
The shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando on Sunday morning killed 50 people and left 53 injured. Hours before the shooter, 29-year-old Omar Mateen, entered the club, he pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State in a 911 call.
